Smoked Fish, Poached Egg and Avocado

Not really a recipe, just a great combination of flavours that work so well together. This is one of my favourite all-time breakfasts but one that you may like to save for the weekend when you have a bit more time to savour and enjoy.

Smoked Fish, Poached Egg and Avocado


  • 1 egg
  • a small portion of smoked fish, I like wild salmon but you could use mackerel, trout or sardines
  • 1/2 a ripe avocado
  • Juice of half a small lime
  • chilli flakes (optional) and seasoning
  • A slice of your favourite bread. I prefer gluten free


  1. Poach the egg in boiling water with a dash of vinegar for 3-5 minutes depending on desired consistency
  2. Mash the avocado with the lime juice and add chilli flakes and seasoning
  3. Toast the bread, if using
  4. Place the mashed avocado on the toasted bread (or plate), add your choice of fish and top with the poached egg
